Founder Story
We Started on Our Own Roof
In 2022, I got quotes for solar on my Central Maine home. The numbers were absurd 10+ year payback on systems I knew shouldn't cost that much. So I did what any stubborn engineer would do: I learned to install it myself.
My neighbor noticed. Then their neighbor. Then I couldn't keep up with the phone calls.
DIY Solar ME wasn't a business plan. It was a community need. And since then, we still operate with the same philosophy: treat every customer like a neighbor, explain everything like a friend, and never charge what the "big guys" charge just because you can.

I reached out to several solar companies for quotes, and I found Navneet at DIY Solar to be exceptionally knowledgeable and accommodating. Working with him was a breeze! He offered flexibility in how much of the installation I wanted to take on myself which was a great perk. I not only saved money but also gained valuable insights about solar energy and enjoyed working with Navneet during the process. For top-notch quality and a competitive price, I highly recommend DIY Solar for your solar project! 10/10

My wife and I are so happy that we found Navneet and DIY Solar! We recently purchased a secluded off-the-grid house on a lake in Maine. We wanted to convert it into a 4-season house, but we could not bear to run power lines to it (which would have significantly impacted the pristine nature of the property.) So our solution was to go solar. Navneet helped us every step of the way: thinking through requirements, specing out several iterations of system design, ordering and installing equipment, configuring things, helping monitor the results. We ended up with 22 405W panels on a south facing roof, 28kWh of battery and a 12kW inverter. Along the way we added a 15kBTU heat pump and a 40 amp EV charging post at the end of the driveway. Navneet managed all of this and brought in the electrician and heat pump installer. As a nice bonus, everything has remote control and monitoring via mobile apps. Navneet was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. He was always respectful, flexible, personable and generally willing to do what was needed to make things happen. He gave us lots of good advice along the way beyond the scope of the project: efficient ceiling fans, crawl space insulation, remote control systems, wi-fi system, etc. We would definitely recommend him to anyone embarking on a similar project. The system has been running well so far (2 months). We installed a backup generator to keep the batteries charged during periods of limited sun, but it hasn’t needed to kick in thus far. I will update this post in the spring to report on how it does through the winter.

I hooked up with Navneet after my crappy installation company (Pine Tree Solar) ripped off a bunch of people and then went down the drain.Found out later that DIY had done the installation for my next-door neighbor. So I contracted with DIY to do some modifications to my system and fix some configuration mistakes Pine Tree had made. Have worked with Navneet twice now and found his performance to be faultless in every way. Simply put, he shows up when he says and does what he says. No complaints whatsoever. Well-played, DIY

This is a great Company. They work with you and feels like family. They did mine and start up was flawless. Amazing knowledge on solar. The app that shows you what your panels are producing is addicting. Would 100% recommend if you’re thinking solar panels.

I had been considering solar at my home for well over a year prior to getting a quote from Navneet. The biggest barrier for me was the huge up front cost that most local installers had and the lack of flexibility. DIY Solar was the only company that had an approach to making solar at my home an affordable and reasonable undertaking. Navneet was excellent throughout the entire project and carefully explained every step, took time to answer every question, and made sure to make my project work for me. His business model is perfect for me and allowed me to invest my own time in helping to keep labor costs down. Although I had no prior experience, Navneet was able to show me how to complete various steps in the install process that were within my comfort zone. Now that my system is finished, I am so excited to have a green system at my home that takes away the stress of constant utility rate hikes. I highly recommend DIY solar to anyone who is looking to make solar at their home an affordable project.

DIY worked easily with us throughout the process, from design to installation. Navneet and his crew were cheerful and hard-working, starting at dawn and only stopping after they had admired the sunset from the ridgepole. We could not be happier with our new solar panels.
